CINES (Centre Informatique National de l’Enseignement Supérieur) is a public institution based in Montpellier, in the south of France. It has three missions of national interest: high-performance computing, archiving, and hosting.
As part of its computing mission, CINES hosts and operates the Adastra supercomputer, named after the Latin phrase “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” which translates to “Through hardships to the stars.”

Adastra combines efficiency with energy sobriety, ranking third globally among the most energy-efficient supercomputers.
