BSC-CNS: Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) is Spain’s national supercomputing facility, renowned for operating MareNostrum, one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers. In the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), BSC plays an important role by providing the high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure and expertise needed to train large-scale AI models, conduct advanced simulations, and manage massive datasets.

Since its establishment in 2005, BSC has actively promoted HPC in Spain and across Europe as a strategic tool for global competitiveness in science and engineering. The center manages the Red Española de Supercomputación (RES), was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and currently serves as a hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the European Joint Undertaking for high-performance computing.

MareNostrum 5: A high-performance supercomputer ranked among the world’s fastest. It supports a wide range of scientific simulations, from climate modeling to materials science, and features a hybrid architecture combining CPUs and GPUs for outstanding computational performance.

AI Factory: A forthcoming, dedicated infrastructure for AI development and deployment. This innovative platform will provide researchers and industry with a state-of-the-art environment to design, test, and implement AI models, harnessing the full potential of HPC and AI technologies.

As a key partner in the MINERVA project, BSC is helping to equip Europe’s AI and HPC ecosystems with the tools and expertise needed to drive innovation.
