AMD Silo AI’s Role in MINERVA
As a partner of MINERVA, AMD Silo AI contributes to the project goal to ensure that Europe’s AI and HPC communities have the tools and expertise they need to push boundaries. AMD Silo AI’s role in the project includes:
1. Providing Showcases of Successful HPC Projects
Through convincing demonstrator projects, inspiring AI developers and researchers to initiate, implement, and execute their own projects on EuroHPC systems, especially with respect to large scale model training, fine-tuning, and deployment.
2. Supporting AI and HPC Integration
Developing best practices and playbooks for executing large scale model training and running on supercomputers.
3. Fostering Open-Source AI Development
Encouraging the use of open-source foundation models and open-source tooling and instrumentation for the training and tuning of models and the subsequent integration of models into downstream applications, and thus to promote transparency and accessibility.
Facilitating community-driven research and development through knowledge and tool sharing to enhance European AI competitiveness.
Why This Matters
Building practically useful AI models requires large scale computation, not only at the research frontier but also at the more mundane integration steps of building useful applications. AMD Silo AI is a key stakeholder in building practically useful and theoretically groundbreaking models and in enabling downstream developers to integrate them into useful and profitable applications. Without a practical and long term sustainable approach to building, integrating, and maintaning models, they will remain a theoretically interesting but not necessarily useful tool. AMD Silo AI focusses on lowering the thresholds of making real use of real AI.
